Ryan Farrag moves up to No. 4 and Quaise Khademi drops to No. 5 in the British Boxing News rankings after their fight at York Hall. Our man, Eric Armitwatched the action.
RYAN Farrag won the vacant Commonwealth title via unanimous decision over Quaise Khademi. Khademi brings some classy skills, and Farrag brings more aggression and experience at a higher level.
Khademi boxed in the first round but was the aggressor for much of the second. Farrag got back in the hunt in the third, scoring with inside rights and Khademi was under pressure throughout the fourth.
It was fast-paced, with Farrag’s work rate giving him the advantage but Khademi mixed in some quick combinations as he charged forward and showed some good defense. Really, there isn’t much between them so it’s difficult to score.
Pressure from Farrag caused Khademi’s work to become sporadic, and Farrag landed some painful punches to the body. Khademi increased his work rate in the ninth and 10th, but a right rocked him late in the 10th.
Khademi boxed and moved in round 11 to stymie Farrag’s attacks, but Farrag turned in a strong 12th round to take the decision at 115-113 (twice) and 117-112 all to Farrag. Former European bantamweight champion Farrag was eliminated for the same title by Marcel Braithwaite last June. Londoner of Afghan descent Khademi lost on points to Jackson Chauke for the vacant IBO flyweight championship in January.
