Rugby coach jumps into canal to rescue old Husky

When police arrived to rescue a drowning dog in Tempe, Arizona, someone hit them. A football coach jumped in to save the dog himself despite feeling unsure of its swimming ability. The dog is a senior Husky that has put himself in a difficult situation.

People are now calling the man a hero because his efforts saved the senior dog’s life. However, he insisted that the rescue could not have been completed without the team’s efforts. So it’s amazing how many kind strangers are willing to work together to save a dog in danger.

The good Samaritan risks his safety

A group of cyclists stopped what they were doing when they saw an old Husky stranded in the Tempe Canal. The dog struggles to stay afloat, so kind strangers know they have to act fast. A football coach called “Salty” Thompson was the one who jumped into the water without thinking twice.

Before pursuing rugby, Thompson enjoyed fishing on the Northern Ireland coast. For that reason, he is nicknamed “The Salty Dog”. However, he admitted that the name was misleading because he was “not a very good swimmer”.

However, his poor swimming skills didn’t show when he jumped into the canal that day. He showed no fear as he rowed to the Husky and helped pull it to shore. While Thompson was in the water, Tempe police arrived, so they quickly stepped up to help him.

“I coach teams, it’s a team effort. There’s no way to get that dog out alone,” Thompson said.

Lost pet rescue at our home adopted a Husky, whom they called “Shelly.” They said they would give Shelly’s family a week to adopt her and if no one came to claim her during that time, she would be put up for adoption after a medical check-up. If she wasn’t home, Thompson admitted that he would want to adopt her.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long for the dog’s family to find her online. They were contacted the same day and said the dog had somehow escaped that morning. The family also posted a comment directly thanking Thompson for what he did.
