Rudy Giuliani Disbarred in New York for Trump Lying About Election Loss

A New York court has been disbarred. Rudolph ‘Rudy’ Giuliani on Tuesday (July 2). Giuliani previously served as mayor of New York City, federal prosecutor and legal adviser to Donald Trump.

The court found that he had repeatedly made false statements about the former president’s unsuccessful second bid for re-election in 2020, the Associated Press reported.

A New York appeals court in Manhattan ruled that Giuliani must “is disbarred from practicing law, effective immediately, until further order of this Court, and his name shall be struck from the rolls of attorneys and solicitors in the State of New York.”

The court said in its decision that Giuliani “substantially admitted” most of the facts supporting the alleged wrongdoing. It also found that Giuliani “falsely and dishonestly” claimed during the 2020 presidential election that thousands of ballots had been cast in the names of dead people in Philadelphia, including the late boxer Joe Frazier.

The court said Rudy Giuliani also falsely claimed that people were taken from nearby Camden, New Jersey, to vote illegally in the Pennsylvania city.

Former lawyer and his lawyer react to disbarment

Giuliani’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, said he was “disappointed” but not surprised by the court’s ruling. He said they “worked hard” to prevent the removal. Rudy echoed that message, but added his own twist in a statement on social media, accusing the New York Bar Association of being a “corrupt” Democratic court system.

“The case is based on an activist complaint, rife with false arguments, a hearing officer who is a former judge from the same corrupt Democratic selection process, and a tape in which nearly a quarter of the most important parts were erased and hidden by the “abusing” New York Attorney General and his staff or the Georgia Secretary of State.”

What will Rudolph ‘Rudy’ Giuliani do next?

Going forward, Rudy Giuliani must “relinquish and refrain from practicing law in any form,” including giving opinions on the law and its application. He can no longer represent himself “as an attorney and legal advisor” in any way.

AP reported that his license to practice law in New York was suspended ahead of the ruling. According to court records, Giuliani, a former mafia prosecutor, had not appeared in court as a lawyer since 1992 before he took up the case against Trump in November 2020.

Yet he has become Trump’s chief mouthpiece behind his false claims of election fraud. You’ll recall that such election lies prompted an angry mob of pro-Trump rioters to storm the U.S. Capitol on January 6 in an effort to stop the certification of Biden’s victory.

Giuliani’s L also comes as the Supreme Court inadvertently handed Trump a W on Monday (July 1). In a historic 6-3 decision, the highest court in the United States ruled that former presidents have broad immunity from prosecution.

The update comes a month after Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York ended with a guilty verdict on 34 charges. Their verdict also means Donald Trump will not face sentencing in his pending election lawsuit in Washington, DC before the next presidential vote.
