Rivian builds some amazing electric vehicles, with pickup truck R1T And SUV R1S stand as shining examples of electrified off-road capabilities. But their performance, engineering, and attention to detail don’t come cheap — Rivians can be picked into six-figure territory with relative ease. Now, it seems the company wants to democratize its performance by introducing a mid-range product. its truck variant; it only happens when the new variant has 700 hp.

Rivian first discussion about Performance Configuration Dual-Motor AWD back in December, but this week, the last option has become available to order. It is available with Rivian’s largest battery pack, the Max Pack, which combines with one motor per shaft to create a total declaration 700 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque. Despite the great performance Numbers, Maximum Package Offer Performance Rivians Dual Engine has an estimated 400-mile range.

In case you lost it:

This brings Rivian to a line of three powertrains, three batteries. The base powertrain is a Dual-Motor AWD setup, with 600 hp and 600 lb-ft, which Rivian says will hit 60 in 4.5 seconds. It is available with the base Standard Pack battery for an estimated price 250 miles range, $6,000 Big pack for 350 milesor $16,000 Max Package for the full 400 miles. For $5,000, buyers can get the Performance Dual Engine specs, available only with Large or Max batteries for 350 or 400 mile range respectively. Top-of-the-line is an $8,000 Quad-Motor AWD option (one motor drives each wheel), with 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque. It claims 0-60 in a flat three seconds, but is only possible with Rivian’s Big Pack battery, with an estimated 328-mile range by the EPA in this specification.

Democratization of performance is always a good thing, and Rivian’s new trim levels should allow more buyers to get their hands on high-speed off-road fun. After all, will you really miss the full 835 horsepower if you’re forced to settle for a mere 700? I think not.
