This deal is only available to new Costco members or those whose membership has been lapsed for more than 18 months. It’s also only available to customers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. While you can buy up to two memberships, there’s a limit of one membership per household — so you can keep one membership and gift the other. (You can, however, get an additional card for a member of the same household over the age of 18.)

I bought this Costco deal myself in November 2023 and can vouch for it. The redemption process is easy: You buy and redeem your membership online, and pick up your card at any Costco warehouse at the customer service counter (just be prepared to take a picture of your card, which I didn’t do). To get the $20 gift card, you enter your email at the time of redemption. My gift card was emailed within two weeks, and I had the option to scan it on my phone or print it out to use in-store or online.
