Measuring flimsy 1.75mm thick, the new one by Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari just passed (0.05mm) the recently released Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra is the thinnest mechanical watch available.

The new titanium watch reaches the record-breaking size with the entire movement built inside the case rather than placed on the base/back plate, the method used by Bulgari and previous record holder Piaget.
The watch’s titanium manual-winding Caliber RM UP-01 is also encased in titanium and features power displays for the hours, minutes and a function selector.
The watch’s bridges, baseplate, and skeleton are made of grade 5 titanium to give the watch its impressive flatness and durability. Richard Mille says their new watch will withstand an acceleration of more than 5,000 g.
And with the help of engineers from Audemars Piguet Le Locle, Richard Mille has developed a powerful new escapement with a titanium balance wheel that reduces the watch’s thickness to just 1.18mm. Engineers have outfitted the ultra-flat barrel with an ultra-fine hairspring that still provides a full 45 hours of power reserve.
To achieve optimal thinness, the engineers also removed the coil body. Instead, Richard Mille offers two wheels, one to select the function and one to use the selected function, each integrated into the left side of the case.
Salvador Arbona, Technical Director of Movements explains: “In this quest to find absolute flatness, we had to deliver a watch, not just a ‘concept watch’, whose mission is to follow track users’ daily lives, regardless of the circumstances.” at Richard Mille.
On the 51mm x 39mm round rectangular case, Richard Mille has minimized the need for sapphire, placing only the powerful, transparent mineral over the red dial and regulator (spring-wheel assembly – balance wheel assembly) ). (See specs below for more details).
New Richard Mille’s RM UP-01 Ferrari is a limited edition of 150 watches and is the first result of a collaboration with the Italian racing legend. Price: 1.89 million USD.

Movement: RMUP-01 Super flat hand-wound with hour, minute and function selectors. Dimensions are 1.18mm thick. Base plate and bridge in grade 5 titanium (alloy of 90% grade 5 titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium). Case: 51mm x 39mm x 1.75mm titanium monobloc construction assembled using 13 grade 5 titanium screws and 316L stainless steel wear-resistant washers. Around the crown, two black porcelain spacers protect the bezel from friction and ensure water resistance. The case back and bezel are finished in satin, with polished bevels. Ferrari’s prancing horse is laser engraved. Water resistant to 10 meters.
Dial: Displays the time, a function selector between 10 and 11 o’clock that allows one to choose either the winding function (W) or the manual setting (H). ? You can then set the time or wind the barrel by turning the second crown between 7 and 8 o’clock.
