Residents Returning home from vacation to squat in their apartment
Greenbelt City Police are investigating the bizarre incident of squatting. Two roommates return to their Maryland apartment after a week-long vacation, to find nearly all of their belongings gone and two strangers sleeping in one of their beds!
Residents reported to police that after entering the apartment, they discovered two suspects, a man and a woman, sleeping on a bed. The suspects told residents they took all their possessions and then became aggressive towards the victims, handling one person before fleeing the scene.
“He handled me, and I was like ‘sir this is my house, won’t you let me leave?’ He was like, ‘no, I’m just saying you don’t go call the police. I’ll give you your apartment, you just don’t go and call the police. “
Greenbelt Police said they are aware of this and have officers actively patrolling the area.
One victim explained to Fox 5. “I couldn’t believe this was happening to me, and I was just trying to stay calm. But at the same time, I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. I came home and literally the two of you were lying on my bed relaxing.”
