I live alone, and Emma is my constant companion. She was rescued by the Pierce County Humane Society in Tacoma, Washington in 2013. Since I retired, I enjoy volunteering and Emma has been a certified therapy dog for seven years. .
Of course, with all of the COVID shutdowns activated, most of our therapy visits have been cancelled, but today we were able to participate in a children’s COVID vaccine clinic, where Emma can help ease the nerves of some younger children. She has also acted as an “Ambassador” for Greenhill at various public events where she was able to demonstrate to potential adopters how great a shelter dog can be.
I’m not sure how I would have gotten through my two years of COVID shutdown without this amazing dog by my side. We hike, camp, and hike in the snow whenever we can.
However, thanks to the shutdown, I admit that I did get a taste of a beer or two in the evening. Emma insisted that she was also allowed to taste a beer. Huh! That doesn’t really agree with her that much! She’ll stick with kibble and water from now on, thanks.
