In the face of what is to come, Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee have warned the FBI and the Justice Department that they plan to investigate both agencies if their parties retake the House. And on Friday, it released a 1,000-page report on accounts that denounced “a pervasive culture of intolerance, manipulation and abuse of the highest degree.”

Republicans are likely to retake the House, and possibly the Senate, with the party very favored to win midterm elections in some congressional districts.

Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan sent a Letters to the United States Attorney General Merrick Garlandhead of the DOJ, and again to the Director of the FBI Christopher Wray requests for documents related to the commission’s investigations are lurking in the not-too-distant future. The reporttitled FBI Whistleblowers: What Their Revelation Tells About The Politics Of The FBI And The Justice Department, alleging political corruption at the highest levels of the FBI, according to a House Judiciary Republican press release. Republicans asserted in the report that the whistleblowers brought to their attention, “allegations of political bias by senior FBI leadership and abuse of federal law enforcement powers.” state of this agency.” The report, while primarily focused on the FBI, also targeted the Department of Justice.

In response to a request for comment on the letter and the report, the FBI told NPR that it has testified before Congress and responded to letters from lawmakers multiple times to ensure there is an accurate account of their work. . It went on to say that its members are dedicated to protecting Americans against terrorism, violent crime and other dangers, all without a political agenda.

“Quite simply: we follow the facts with no regard for politics,” the FBI said in a written statement. “While outside opinions and criticism often accompanies work, we will continue to follow the facts wherever they lead, doing things according to the book and speaking through the work. ours.”

The DOJ told NPR it declined to comment on the matter.

Both the letter and the report, released just days before the end of the 2022 midterm elections, address a number of prominent Republican issues, including but not limited to: extremism domestic violence; charges against President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden; and the FBI raid on former President Trump’s home, where agents seized classified documents, became the subject of a The legal battle is going on.

Jordan and the committee that Republicans accused the FBI of “artificially exaggerating and manipulating statistics on domestic violent extremism for political purposes,” in their report, and states that the office is “promoting the Biden Administration’s narrative that domestic violent extremism is the greatest threat to our nation.”

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have released a Strategic Intelligence Assessment and Data on Domestic Terrorism report in October, asserting that violent extremists in the country were one of the most persistent threats facing the country. The report listed more than 30 incidents that occurred between 2020 and 2021, which were classified as significant domestic terrorism incidents.

“These individuals are often radicalized online and seek to launch attacks with easily accessible weapons,” the report said. “Many of these violent extremists are motivated and inspired by a mix of ideological, sociopolitical and personal grievances against their goals.”

According to the report, anti-government or anti-government and racially or ethnically motivated violent extremism account for 77% of FBI domestic terrorism investigations in 2020 and 57% in 2021. And , a significant portion of the investigations from 2021 are directly related to the report noting the January 2021 siege of the Capitol.

In letters to both agencies, Jordan set a deadline of November 16 to turn over documents requested by House Judiciary Republicans.
