Renault previews reborn Scenic electric car

renault revealed official camouflage photos of its upcoming product Electronic Scenic Electronic Technology as it continues testing before being put into mass production.

All-electric SUV to launch on September 4 at the IAA 2023 Mobile Show in Munich.

The Scenic nameplate has been around since 1996. Electrified Scenic inspired by Scenic Landscape Vision Concept previewed it in 2022.

The concept features a plug-in hybrid powertrain powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, but Renault has ditched the all-electric powertrain instead.

Reports last year said “90 percent” of the Scenic Vision’s design would be carried over to the production version, which seems to be the case.

The exact dimensions of the upcoming Scenic E-Tech Electric are unknown, however, the concept is 4490mm long, 1900mm wide, 1590mm tall and has a 2835mm wheelbase.

It’s about halfway between the 4.41m Scenic and the 4.63m Grand Scenic, both of which were discontinued last year.

Recently spy photography a heavily camouflaged Scenic prototype during development testing.

New photos from Renault today showcase the daytime running lights, headlights, silver chrome logos and L-shaped taillights of the compact MPV whose whereabouts are still unknown.

It’s unclear what the entire interior will look like, however there’s a dual-screen digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen that can be seen through the car’s windows in some of the teaser shots.

It looks like the production model will drop the steering ‘yoke’ that debuted in the Scenic Vision concept.

The front seats have dual racing stripes. It’s unclear what material the chairs are made of, but it appears to be a dark cloth-like material.

It is expected to be underpinned by the CMF-EV platform, which is also used by the smaller Renault Megane Electronic Technology And Nissan Arya.

It’s unclear what powertrain options Renault will offer for its electric motors.

The front-wheel drive Megane E-Tech Electric is offered with a 40kWh or 60kWh battery option, as well as a 96kW/250Nm or 160kW/300Nm electric motor. With a larger battery, it offers a range of 470 km.

The larger Ariya has 63kWh and 87kWh batteries and a range of different engine outputs, with a dual-motor four-wheel drive delivering 290kW and 600Nm and a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 5.1 seconds.

Although the Renault Scenic did not create a small passenger car segment – models such as the Nissan Prairie and Mitsubishi Space Runner/RVR appeared first – its introduction in 1996 caused a significant increase in the popularity of this vehicle.

Compact MPVs have become hot assets in Europe, with manufacturers from Citroen to Volkswagen and even premium brands like BMW joining in.

BMW is one of the last brands standing in this segment in Europe with Series 2 Active Tourerwith most manufacturers ditching their small MPVs to replace SUVs or just offering passenger vans based on cargo vans instead of cars.

Renault has rapidly expanded its SUV lineup. The arrest joined by Arkana coupe crossover, the Kadjar crossover was dropped but replaced by the Austral and its three-row Espace subversion, and Rafale was revealed this year as a new flagship model.

It’s unclear if Renault will bring the Scenic E-Tech Electric here, resurrecting a nameplate that was once offered Down Under.

Scenic was sold here for two generations from 2001 to 2009, before being scrapped when the company shifted focus to Koleos cross.
