Remington Park ended the 2021 Thoroughbred Season with a thrilling Springboard Mile Night on Friday, December 17 as Make it big won a protracted battle with Osbourne to win the track’s top stakes event for 2-year-olds.
Both Make It Big (10 points) and Osbourne (4 points) earned qualifying points for the 2022 Kentucky Derby for their efforts in the Springboard Mile. The featured race is accompanied by a solid group of 12 other races with four of which are also key events. The Big Night brought Remington Park to a record-breaking pari-mutuel night with bets as high as $4,050,597. This is the first time in racing history that the number has surpassed $4 million.
Total processing for the 67-day Remington Park season (August 20-December 17) totaled $98,120,236, up 31.2% from the same figure from the 2019 season with $74,806,848 la.
Remington Park also welcomes racing guests back in full in 2021, for the first time since 2019. Players on that track responded with $3,471,207, up 15, 8% from the $2,997,881 mark of 2019.
Export processing on Remington Park remains strong with $94,497,917 staked by players from outside the local controlled jurisdiction. That’s a 31.9% increase from 2019’s total of $71,620,980.
A Remington Park off-track partner, the Thunder Roadhouse in Oklahoma City, handled $151,112. Thunder Roadhouse is less than 9 miles from Remington Park, providing convenience to many local equestrians.
The Horsemen of Remington Park competed for a record amount of purses totaling $17,838,020, averaging $266,239 per day. This total is up 5.1%, topping a total of $16,971,799 in 2019, when the daily average was $253,310.
All handle and wallet comparisons were made for the 2019 season, which lasted 67 days and was the most recent Taming season at Remington Park, where all facilities were available to guests. The 2020 season was conducted under limited access guidelines due to health concerns brought about by the pandemic. 2019 is also the last racing year in which the North American horse racing market operates normally.
There have been 601 races conducted this season, nine fewer than a year ago. A total of 4,991 horses have started this season with an average yard size of 8.3. There are 5,261 starters in 2020 with an average field size of 8.6 per race.
Live racing at Remington Park is on pause until the start of the 2022 American Horse Season, which begins March 3. Thoroughbred racing will return in late August 2022.
