Reminder: Wii U and 3DS eShop will close at the end of March 2023
Nintendo of America Twitter Account share a reminder that the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop will soon be gone. Nintendo will discontinue both online storefronts on March 27, 2023. Those who still have funds in their accounts will be able to merge the remaining balance with their Nintendo Switch accounts until March 2024.
News of this decision first appeared in February 2022. With the stores closed, players will no longer be able to buy new games or download free demos. For games you already own, you can still re-download them as long as you have a license. This also applies to DLC. The My Memories Website for the 3DS and Wii U are also open, though you’ll need a Nintendo account to access.
Closing eShops is a natural part of the dashboard with online access. PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita is also closed for Summer 2021. In all of these cases, it simply means that you won’t be able to buy older games anymore. Players will still have access to the games in their digital library.
The Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop will close on March 27, 2023. Players with games that want to buy should purchase them before that date to be able to access them in the future.
