RED launches V-Raptor Rhino with 8K S35 . sensor

In September 2021, RED introduced a new flagship 8K camera for cinema, V-Raptor, housed in the DSMC3 module body and featuring an adaptable Canon RF lens mount. The camera features a 35.4MP 8K VV CMOS sensor measuring 40.96 x 21.60mm with 8192 x 4320 pixels that can record 8K/120p video with 17+ stops of dynamic range. Now, RED has revealed a Super 35 version of V-Raptor.

According to RED CEO Jarred Land, the V-Raptor Rhino features a 26.21 x 13.82mm Super 35 CMOS sensor that also boasts 35.4 megapixels and 8K/120p video recording capabilities. The sensor is still capable of capturing more than 16.5 stops of dynamic range. The same DSMC3 body is used, so it can be well compatible with such cases from Nauticam designed for V-Raptor 8K VV.

Like the V-Raptor with its larger sensor, the V-Raptor Rhino supports various REDCODE RAW codecs with RED IPP2 Gamma color science; multiple aspect ratios, including 17:9, 16:9, 2.4:1 and 2:1 in 8K RAW; and RED’s 7-inch touchscreen LCD.

The V-Raptor Rhino will retail for around $19,500. In his Instagram post introducing the cameraLand said it was “drawn in a special edition of the ‘Rhino Gray’ Filmmakers’ Wildlife Association with a portion of the proceeds going to various wildlife charities. “
