Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled the 2019-2022 GLS SUV to fix an issue with the rear seat backrests.
“Due to a manufacturing issue, the third-row seat backrest locking mechanism may not be installed properly and may be defective,” the brand said in the recall notice.
“In the event of an accident or emergency braking, the backrests of the rear seats can fall toward the passenger.
“If the backrests of the rear seats are inadvertently tilted towards the passenger, it can increase the risk of injury or death for occupants.”
- A total of 2475 vehicles are subject to the recall

Mercedes-Benz Australia will contact owners of the affected vehicles and advise them to organize free repairs at their nearest dealers.
