Will Smith has publicly apologized to Chris Rock for slapping him in the face on Sunday night at the Oscars.
“Violence in any form is toxic and destructive. My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable,” Smith said. wrote on Instagram.
The apology came a few hours after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday condemned Smith’s actions and launched a formal investigation into the incident.
The change between Smith and Rock happened after the comedian joked around with Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
When Rock took the stage to present the Oscar for best documentary, he directed his comedy to the pair. Rock said he’s looking forward to seeing Pinkett Smith in GI Jane 2 – make fun of her shaved head. She shaved her head because hair loss hair loss condition.

The Oscars ceremony was tense after the slap. But Smith later won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard.
