After it was officially declared the new British sovereign on Saturday, King Charles III sent a statement to the Accession Council.
The following is a transcript of his remarks, released by Buckingham Palace.
Your Majesty, ladies and gentlemen.
It is my saddest duty to inform you of the death of my beloved mother, the queen.
I know you, the entire nation – and I think I might say the world – sympathize with me for the irreparable loss we all have suffered. It has been the greatest comfort to me to know the sympathy so many have for my sister and brothers and that such immense love and support should be extended to our whole family in our loss.
To all of us as a family, as well as this kingdom and the great family of nations of which it is a part, my mother set an example of lifelong love and selfless service.
My mother’s reign is unparalleled in its time, dedication, and devotion. Even when we grieve, we thank this most faithful life.
I am acutely aware of this great inheritance and the heavy duties and responsibilities of sovereignty that have now been conferred upon me. As I assume these responsibilities, I will strive to follow the inspiring example I have been set forth in upholding constitutional government and seeking peace, harmony and prosperity among the peoples of the lands. this island as well as of territories and commonwealths around the world.
To this end, I know that I will be supported by the affection and loyalty of the peoples to whom I have been called sovereign, and that in carrying out these duties I will be guided by their elected congressional advisors. In all of this, I am deeply encouraged by the constant support of my beloved wife.
I take this opportunity to confirm my goodwill and intention to continue the tradition of entrusting hereditary revenues, including crown property, to my government for the benefit of all, to in exchange for a sovereign grant, supporting my official duties as head of state. and head of state.
And as I carry out the heavy task that has been set upon me, and now that I will dedicate the rest of my life, I pray for the guidance and help of almighty God.
