Ubisoft’s tactical FPS Rainbow Six Siege opens Grade 6 Part 4 today. Dubbed High Caliber, it introduces the new defensive operator Thorn, whose special utility is a sticky grenade that can explode into a razor when it detects an enemy. Noisy. Another big change this season is the rework of the Outback map, which cleans up a lot of junk to improve visibility and help attackers strategize.
First, Thorn. She’s an Irish technical weapons expert whose unique tool is the Razorbloom Shell, which sounds a lot like a full-bladed grenade. Very technical. She can stick it to surfaces, and when it detects an enemy, it explodes blasting small jabs in all directions. This add-on can kill players completely, so attackers will be interesting.
Next is the Outback remake. The developers moved the sites, added some new places to sneak through, made the office larger, and split the restaurant into two rooms. Ubisoft says that its changes will “allow attackers to create and execute more effective strategies” and “provide better lines of sight and balance.” These are all good things to have in a first person shooter, lovely stuff.
Another interesting change with this season is that the developers have changed the colors of the team. Since launch, your team is always blue, while enemies are always orange. They changed the enemies to red now to help newbies understand who is who and to make the UI more consistent. An odd decision to this extent for the life of the game, but I’m disappointed with it. Orange that always hit me is an odd choice for the opposing team.
