🏈 Good morning everyone, especially…

GARDNER MINSHEW

Fear of mustache. The robber named Gardner Minshew their starting quarterback, ending one of the league’s final quarterback battles three weeks before their regular-season opener.

  • Minshew, 28, defeated Aidan O’Connellwho started 10 games for Las Vegas last season as a rookie. Minshew signed a two-year, $25 million deal this offseason, and he and O’Connell have been competing against each other ever since.
  • Although Minshew completed less than 50 percent of his passes before the season, O’Connell threw a pick-six on his final throw on Saturday. Head coach Antonio Pierce said he had considered months of training, but O’Connell’s interception certainly didn’t help.
  • “Gardner gives us the best chance to get off to a fast start,” Pierce said.

Minshew, who is on his fourth team in five seasons, has filled in admirably for Pony last year after Anthony RichardsonMinshew, who had 18 total touchdowns and nearly led Indianapolis to a playoff berth, also had 14 sacks. Using expected points added per sack, Minshew was the 18th-best quarterback in the league, slightly ahead of O’Connell (23rd).

😁 Appreciative compliments

🏈 And this is not a good morning for…

RUSSELL WILSON, JUSTIN FIELDS AND PITTSBURGH STEELERS …

Meanwhile, the battle for the quarterback position in Pittsburgh is not going well. Russell Wilson did (informal) Steelers Team debuted, but both he and Justin Fields impression in one Lost 9-3 arrive Bill.

  • Wilson completed 8 of 10 throws but gained only 47 yards. He also had three interceptions.
  • Fields came on later and completed 11 of 17 runs for 92 yards while adding 42 yards on the ground. Like much of his career, Fields showed flashes of brilliance and moments of inconsistency. The Steelers turned the ball over on every down on their final three drives, all led by Fields.
  • Mike Tomlin is called “Incomplete Research” Contest on Sunday. That’s… not ideal!

Making matters worse, Jaylen Warren (hamstring) will miss weeks, and Nate Herbig (rotator cuff tear) could miss the entire season.

…AND DANIEL JONES AND THE NEW YORK GIANTS

Giant fans probably wish they had a quarterback competition on their hands. In his unofficial first game since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, Daniel Jones threw two interceptions, including one really bad pick-sixagainst Texan.

Although Jones eventually started, connect with Malik Nabers and others, that’s the kind of play you can’t have. Backed deep into his own territory, Jones didn’t get the ball out in time, then almost made a safety, only to “get away” with it by… throwing the ball right to Jalen Pitrewho sprinted into the end zone.

Jones also caught a stray in connection with his interception from Tom Brady. Right on time!

😬 No honorable mention

On Sunday, Fever The star did it again, toppling the former league champion rookie support recordhas existed since 1998 when Ticha Penicheiro has collected 225 coins for the deceased Sacramento Monarchs Football Team. Clark added 23 points and five rebounds in the Fever Win 92-75 above StormA win moves Indiana closer to clinching a playoff berth.

  • Overall, Clark’s 232 assists this season are the 10th most in a season in WNBA history, and Indiana still has 12 games left in the regular season.
  • Her 8.3 assists per game not only leads the league this season, but is also on pace to be the fifth-highest average in league history, with Courtney Vandersloot Clark’s 17.6 points per game is also the highest among rookies and 11th in the league this season.
  • Alyssa Thomas currently owns the assist record in a season (316 last year), but Clark’s current pace should see her surpass that record.

Happy college football week! By this time next week, we’ll be analyzing every aspect of Week 0, but for now, we’re very, very excited that it’s almost here.

If college football has piqued your interest this season — whether it’s EA Sports College Football 25, restructuring, NIL, transfers, or whatever — and you’re looking for a team to cheer for, Tom Fornelli has many recommendationsbig and small. One of those “big” teams is…

  • Fornelli:Tennessee — Everything I’ve Seen Since Nico Iamaleava And everything I’ve heard from scouts who have watched him over the years leads me to believe this kid has a very high ceiling. When you combine his skill set with the offense he’ll play in, I’m not kidding when I say I believe Iamaleava is a legitimate Heisman candidate in 2024. He could take Tennessee from ‘CFP at-large contender’ to ‘potential SEC champion.’ In a season where we don’t have a surefire superstar quarterback, Nico could be that guy. Get over that; Nico will be that guy.”

Okay, now that you’re a Volunteers fan, let’s find out. David Sanders, son.your current five star attacker committed to the weekend.

And if you’re looking for a less popular show, Tom has selections from across the country. (PS If you want to become my favorite subscriber, please consider Northwest or Virginiaalso!)
