American Airlines participate Shell’s fuel rewards program. You’ll earn 3 miles per gallon of fuel when you fill up at a Shell location, plus new members will earn 250 miles just for joining and completing their first fill-up at Shell.
Just keep in mind that when you choose to receive Fuel Rewards, you lose the opportunity to earn cash back (between 3 and 10 cents per gallon) through Fuel Rewards. TPG estimates that American Airlines miles valuable 1.58 cents each. That means earning 2 miles per gallon is the same as earning 3.16 cents in value per gallon (though you can get more value out of your rewards if you know How to maximize American Airlines miles). Conversely, the miles you earn will also be counted Loyalty pointsmaking this even more attractive to suitors America’s elite status.
