The Provincial Canine Rehabilitation Center is a unique partnership between the Ontario SPCA and the Humane Society and Peterborough Humane Society. It will fill an important and significant gap in current services by addressing the individual needs of the most difficult dogs to keep. This unique partnership will bring three facilities under one roof for a one-of-a-kind complex in Ontario. The Peterborough Animal Care Center will span 24,000 square feet and will house the Peterborough Humane Society Adoption & Education Center and the Area Spay and Neuter Clinic, as well as the Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Center Ontario SPCA.

Q: As someone who has dedicated himself to the cause of animal behavior, what are you most excited about when the Provincial Canine Rehabilitation Center opens?

A: The Ontario SPCA Canine Rehabilitation Center is an exciting step forward in animal health! It will allow us to focus more on the specific needs of animals with behavioral concerns.

The facility will be designed with unique needs in mind to help dogs need more support than a typical animal center can provide. Many of these dogs survive in animal centers, more and more becoming more and more annoying. Without the time, dedicated resources, or specialized staff required to rehabilitate one-on-one behavior, it will be difficult for dogs going through challenging times to find their permanent home.

I can’t wait to see this center come together and the work it will do for animals across Ontario!

Together, we can turn the tide for challenging dogs and help them get the fresh start they want. To make a donation to help bring the Ontario SPCA Rehabilitation Center to the finish line, visit ontariospca.ca/dogrehab
