Prosus, Naspers to cut jobs at corporate offices by 30%

Prosus NV and its parent company Naspers in South Africa are cutting up to 30% of jobs at their corporate offices, the Dutch tech investor said.

Prosus NV and its parent company Naspers in South Africa are cutting up to 30% of jobs at their corporate offices, the Dutch tech investor said.

These companies are the latest big tech-based companies to implement layoffs, after Google announced major cuts by the parent company last week.

“We are adapting to the changing macro environment and have been working for some time to strengthen our cost structure,” a Prosus spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.

Prosus and Naspers have about 15 corporate offices around the world, with the largest ones in Johannesburg and Amsterdam.

“We’re announcing some role cuts today as we realign our efforts in specific areas and reduce our cost base.”

Prosus/Naspers has about 30,000 employees but most are employed at companies in their portfolio. A spokesman said there were no figures for the number of employees employed at the company’s offices globally.

Prosus owns and operates a number of companies it invests in, including Brazilian food delivery giant iFood and online classifieds marketplace OLX.

It also owns minority stakes in dozens of companies like Delivery Hero.

Those companies are making their own staffing decisions on different time frames, the spokesperson said.

There is no schedule for the reduction of corporate offices.
