Princess Grace’s half-sister scored for the first time

This column highlights the performances of damsels who have started no more than five times and sold for more than $500,000 at public auction, with graded siblings/group winners or dams classified/group winner. BloodHorse’s research shows that early winners, in particular, those who meet these criteria are more likely to become graded stakes winners.

Churchill Downs

John and Susan Moore’s masquerade added another winner to her children’s sparkling resume when Mixer opened her account late on June 9 at Churchill Downs.

Mixologist, 3 year old daughter of blur , was the youngest of Masquerade’s three colts in the race. The Silent name The mare’s first runner-up, Princess of grace , won six graded stakes scores and three Grade 1 placings for the Moores before awarding China Horse Club a cool $1,700,000 at the 2022 November Sale at Fasig -Tipton. Under her new ownership, Princess Grace departed for the Southern Hemisphere for a campaign in Australia. Millionaire Horse was runner-up twice at group 1 level last year.

Masquerade’s second foal was the talented but ill-fated Catnip. The Kitten’s Joy gelding, racing under Moore’s colors, showed the potential to be one of the country’s top turf horses in 2024 after claiming a huge third place in the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1T) in January. Catnip then journeyed to Meydan for the prestigious Dubai Turf (G1T), where he suffered a serious injury in the race 100 yards from the wire.

Registration for

Following Princess Grace’s success in 2022, bloodstock agents Alex Solis II and Jason Litt secured Mixologist on behalf of LNJ Foxwoods for $175,000 at the Keeneland September sale that fall. Following in the footsteps of her half-brothers, Mixologist made a late appearance on the track when she lined up as third choice in a field of 12 fillies and mares in the special weight class for young woman on the mile-long grass field on Sunday.

Guided by Florent Geroux, the Mixer took a tenth early walk outside the horse before getting ready to head down to the backstretch. In sixth place in the furlong, the speckled horse looked beaten midway through the stretch until entering the gap at the sixteenth pole, overtaking a stubborn race favorite Deep satin to win at the neck.

The mixologist, trained by Brad Cox, stopped the clock at 1:37.25 on the hard turf.
