In some cases, these ships are nearly 40% smaller than the size of Princess Cruises’ largest ships. Notably, these smaller ships have less pool deck space and fewer locations inside than the largest Princess cruise ships. However, with fewer people on board, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

What is the largest Princess cruise ship?

The largest Princess cruise ship is Discovery Princess with a capacity of 3,660 passengers, which is also the company’s newest ship. It launches in March 2022.

Discovery Princess is the sixth and final ship of the Royal Princess class, which began launching in 2013. They are all roughly the same size, but Discovery Princess is only slightly larger than her sister ships. its younger brother with a total tonnage of 145,000 tons. The remaining five in the Royal series have displacements ranging from 142,229 to 144,650 tons. Note that gross ton is a size measurement referring to internal space, not weight.

The ships in the Princess’ Royal class are significantly larger than the ships in the service’s two other classes (the Grand and the Coral class) and have more than nine restaurants, bars, galleries and pool spaces on the deck. ships in those classes.

Other Royal ships of similar size to Discovery Princess are Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess.

What is the smallest Princess cruise ship?

The smallest Princess cruise ship is the 2,000-passenger Coral Princess. Weighing just 91,267 tons, it is about 36% smaller than the Discovery Princess, making it a significantly smaller ship.

The Coral Princess dates back to 2002, a time when cruise ships were built much smaller than they are today and had fewer locations. At 21 years old, it’s also one of the two oldest ships in the Princess fleet and will likely be phased out over the next decade.

Although significantly smaller than the latest Princess ships, the Coral Princess still has many of the signature spaces and locations found on the new Princess ships, including an Italian eatery called Sabatini’s and a steakhouse. .

The entertainment venues on Coral Princess include a relatively large main theater for productions, a side lounge offering comedy shows and other entertainment, and a casino. Like the other Princess ships, the top deck of the ship is primarily for a pool area with a hot tub and loungers. There is also a spa area.

Although smaller and older than the typical Princess ship, the Coral Princess has a loyal following of Princess fans who prefer smaller and more intimate ships.

Are the larger Princess cruise ships arriving?

Correct! Princess now has two new, larger cruise ships on order. The first to arrive will be Princess Sun in February 2024. This will be the first of the line’s all-new Sphere class of ships including ships that will be significantly larger than anything Princess has had in her fleet before. .

With a total weight of 175,500 tons, the Sun Princess will be about 21% larger than the largest Princess cruise ship currently at sea — a significant increase. It will be almost twice the size of the smallest Princess ships currently at sea.

The second new ship that Princess has ordered, called the Star Princess, will be a sister ship to the similarly sized Sun Princess. It will begin sailing in 2025.

The Sphere-class ships are currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard near Monfalcone, Italy.

Note that this is not the first time Princess has named a ship Sun Princess or Star Princess. Both are recycled names from previous Princess ships. Princess operates smaller ships under the Sun Princess and Star Princess names until 2020.

TPG recently had a preview the most notable new features under development for the new Sun Princess during a visit to the partially completed ship at the Fincantieri shipyard.

In addition to being significantly larger than previous Princess ships, the new Sun Princess will also be the first Princess ship to feature suites with exclusive access to a restaurant, lounge and private sundeck – a sign that Princess hopes to attract more upmarket tourists.

In total, the ship is designed to hold 4,300 passengers with double the capacity.

What is the difference between the larger and smaller Princess ships?

The largest Princess cruise ships have more room for more sites and attractions on board than the smaller Princess ships. That makes them more appealing to travelers who prefer a large resort experience with more options than staying at a smaller resort.

For example, on the largest Princess ships, Royal class ships, you will find central skylights like the largest square in the Princess fleet surrounded by numerous bars and restaurants; multiple entertainment venues for live shows, comedy acts and more; and a spacious pool deck with more space for sunbathing than you can find on smaller Princess ships.

You’ll also find a number of extras only available on Royal Class ships, including, on some ships, the “SeaWalk” whose glass deck extends over the side of the ship.

The smaller Princess cruise ships are also generally older cruise lines and lack some of the above features that are typical of newer ships. These smaller Princess ships have a more intimate feel, at least among the relatively large, mass-market ships, and they hold fewer people.

While Royal ships can accommodate more than 4,500 passengers with each full berth, the line’s smaller vessels (especially the relatively small Island Princess and Coral Princess) typically only carry around 2,000 passengers on board.

That makes the smaller Princess ships a good choice for those who want to try Princess but don’t want to travel with large crowds. As a result, the smallest ships in the Princess fleet attract a small group of Princess fans who prefer the intimacy of a cruise ship and don’t mind giving up some of the onboard amenities to get It. They are also generally less expensive to sail, on a per-day basis.

Also, due to their size, the smallest ships at Princess Cruises can operate cruises to places that are not easily accessible by large ships. Not all ports in the world can handle a ship the size of the Discovery Princess.
