Prince of Lir continues research mission in India

Racehorse and winning horse Royal Ascot Prince Lir was sold to stand at Gurpreet Singh’s Bishan Stud in Nakodar, Punjab, in a deal brokered by Ajay Anne of New Approach Bloodstock.

The son of Kodiac coached by Robert Cowell for the Cool Silk Partnership to win the 2016 Norfolk Stakes (G2), after winning his debut at Beverley last month.

Prince of Lir was purchased to replace Gusto, the 13-year-old son of the Oasis Dream formerly raced in the UK by Richard Hannon Sr. and Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, who recently passed away at Bishan Stud.

“Mr Singh started breeding horses 10 to 12 years ago and Gusto is a great stallion for him,” said Anne on December 23. “He is only 15 years old but has done a great job with his horse. his cubs.

“In India stallions consist only of their owner’s horses and he starts with books under 10, but keeps picking up and picking up to compete with some stallions largest operating in the country.

“In terms of size and appearance, he is no different from the Northern Dancer, so we often call him ‘Little Northern Dancer’.”

The Prince of Lir retired to Ballyhane Stud in Ireland at the end of the age of 2 and his most famous descendants are Lir Jet who won the first two starts, including the 2020 Norfolk Staking.

Another promising performer for the 8-year-old is this year’s UK EBF Stallions winner Harry Rosebery Stakes Prince Pillo , also placed third in the Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes (G3). Other notable progeny include live In The Dream, Puerto Princesa and Queen Of Rio stake performers.

Anne said: “Sadly, Gusto died of colic and we wanted a healthy horse to replace him because he did a great job.

“We searched in the US, Australia and Europe. It was difficult to find stallions of the right quality—competition in Europe was particularly strong—but we were fortunate enough to procure the Prince of Lir.

“He should mate well with the mares here and it is exciting for Indian racing to have a horse like him who won at Royal Ascot and then produced a winning horse in the Similar race, come stand here.

“It’s a credence to Mr Singh and the staff at his school how far they’ve come, and hopefully Prince of Lir will keep them going.”

The Prince of Lir was bred by Philip and Orla Hore and sold to Emerald Bloodstock for £40,000 (US$62,783) from Mount Eaton Stud at the DBS Premier Yearling Sale in 2015. Thereafter, he made £170,000 (244,783) USD) for the Cool Silk Partnership and Stroud Coleman at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale next year, when sold by Bansha House Stable.
