Introduced in late 2020, Toyota Yaris Cross sits at the bottom of the Japanese automaker’s SUV line-up, below the larger C-HR and Corolla Cross.

Prices start from $26,990 before the cost of the road for the 2WD Yaris Cross GX runs on gasoline and tops at $37,990 before road costs for the Yaris Cross AWD Urban hybrid.

Based on the same platform as yaris hatch, Yaris Cross serves as Toyota’s rival for similar models Ford Puma And Volkswagen T-Cross.

Toyota offers the Yaris Cross with both petrol and hybrid powertrains with a rear-wheel drive that costs you $2000 more than the gas engine.

The Yaris Cross is also offered in all-wheel drive hybrid form for an additional $3000 for the hybrid two-wheel drive model.

A GR Sport variant has joined the Yaris Cross lineup for 2023.

It makes no changes to the powertrain but has tweaked the suspension which is said to improve steering and response as well as reduce body roll.

It is only available with hybrid powertrain and front-wheel drive.

Front-wheel drive Toyota Yaris Cross is powered by a 1.5 liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine with 88kW power and 145Nm torque, combined with a continuously variable transmission.

The hybrid model is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors, for a total power output of 85kW. The internal combustion engine alone produces 67kW of power and 120Nm of torque.

All-wheel drive hybrid models have a third electric motor, located on the rear axle, which assists the front axle when it detects front slip. The total power output is the same.

The gasoline-powered Toyota Yaris Cross has an announced combined fuel consumption figure of 5.4L/100km.

The front-wheel-drive Yaris Cross hybrid has a claimed combined fuel economy figure of 3.8L/100kmand with all-wheel drive, this number increases 4.0L/100km.

Toyota Yaris Cross 2023 has dimensions of 4180mm long, 1765mm wide, 1590mm high with a wheelbase of 2660mm.

Boot space in the two-wheel drive model measures at 390L. All-wheel drive models have 314L of trunk space.

The Yaris Cross is 30mm taller, 90mm taller and 20mm wider than the city version, it’s also 240mm longer despite having the same wheelbase.

Service and Warranty

Toyota Yaris Cross is warranted for 5 years, unlimited kilometers as with the wider Toyota models.

Service intervals are every 15,000 km and are backed by Toyota’s limited-price service, which is $250 per service for the first five years.

Safety

The Toyota Yaris Cross earns a five-star safety rating based on testing conducted by ANCAP in 2021.

It received a score of 86% for adult passenger protection, 86% for child passenger protection, 78% for vulnerable pedestrian protection and 82% for safety assistance.
