Press Ganey integrates Epic nursing quality data and automates reporting

Patient experience monitoring specialist Press Ganey has expanded its collaboration with Epic, focusing on nursing-related safety outcomes, integrating the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators ( NDNQI) with Epic’s electronic health record platform.

NDNQI collects more than 600 metrics from more than 2,000 organizations, allowing nursing leaders at hospitals and health systems to evaluate performance.

Initially, the integration will automate reporting for five key metrics: catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line infections, inpatient falls, outpatient falls, and concussion. pressure injury.

The collaboration aims to enhance patient care by streamlining data reporting, saving nursing leaders time and accelerating quality improvement efforts.

Additionally, through the conference initiative, Press Ganey and Epic enabled joint customers to access patient experience insights into their workflows.

Jeff Doucette, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Press Ganey, told Healthcare IT news Integrating nurse-sensitive metrics and outcomes from Epic into NDNQI provides significant advantages for nursing and quality leaders in healthcare delivery organizations.

“First, it automates the reporting of critical safety events and outcomes, which reduces the workload associated with manual data entry and allows leaders to spend more more time for improvement initiatives and data analysis.”

Second, establishing accurate, timely data is a prerequisite for providing deep, evidence-based, actionable insights for nurse leaders to further engage, coach and educate. and support their nursing staff, he added.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Previously, reporting of key safety outcomes such as catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line-associated bloodstream infections, falls, and pressure injuries involved extracting Export data manually.

The NDNQI and Epic integration automates this process for these initial indicators, with the ability to include more indicators in the future.

“This streamlines reporting, saves time and resources, and allows staff to focus on patient care,” Doucette said.

Additionally, access to accurate and timely data on these important safety metrics allows for earlier identification and mitigation of potential patient safety issues, he noted.

BIGGER TREND

A year ago, Press Ganey announced a partnership with Epic in their conference program to jointly develop innovative ways to integrate the company’s platform.

PX Connect Suite is the first feature set released under that partnership. Press Ganey argues that the workshop initiative, powered by PX Connect Suite, represents an innovative approach to integrating patient experience data directly into electronic health records.

“This initiative empowers healthcare organizations to gain deeper insights into the patient experience,” said Doucette.

Clinicians can see patient feedback directly within their workflow, allowing them to personalize care and promptly address any concerns. Furthermore, the ability to identify areas where patient experience improvement is needed enables healthcare organizations to take targeted actions and enhance service recovery efforts.

“Both initiatives contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of patient care,” he said. “By combining these insights, healthcare organizations gain a comprehensive view, allowing them to optimize care delivery to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.” core.”
