New electricity Porsche Macan The base price is much higher than its predecessor, but despite this, the German brand says pre-orders from both new and existing customers are still high.
The combustion-powered Macan is currently Porsche’s best-selling model in Australia, but customers can only order it until September.
The new electric Macan models are available to order now ahead of their domestic market launch in the fourth quarter of 2024.
“[We have] “It’s a price increase over the previous generation but… I think we’ve done more on the interior and exterior to say this is a good product for you,” Stephen Lenschow, the Macan’s body systems director, told Australian media.
The new range starts with the base Macan at $128,400 and extends to the Macan Turbo at $184,400 (excluding on-road costs).
But that’s a significant premium over the previous-generation Macan, which started at $95,100 before on-road costs.
Not only does the Macan move to a new platform – the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) – but, as the name suggests, it now runs exclusively on electric power.
Still, Porsche says plenty of current Macan owners have already placed pre-orders.
“Pre-orders are in the hundreds. We have seen strong interest from both existing and new Porsche customers, with around 60 per cent of orders coming from existing buyers at this stage,” a Porsche Australia spokesperson said.
“The number of enquiries far exceeded our expectations as Australian customers had yet to see the car in the metal.”
The Macan EV joins an increasingly crowded luxury electric SUV market in Australia that includes rivals from Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz, with Cadillac and Maserati soon to follow.
While Porsche is ending production of its internal combustion engine-powered mid-size SUV, it remains committed to continuing to offer Gasoline Cayenne “until and after 2030”.
