The Porsche Taycan upgraded is not the only electric vehicle (EV) presented at the Porsche World Roadshow 2024, because Brand new Macan was also previewed in Malaysia for the first time after its global launch in January this year.

Expected to officially go on sale here later this year, Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), representing Porsche Malaysia, is currently accepting pre-orders for the second-generation Macan. “The Macan has always been a sporty car in the small SUV segment and now, with an all-new powertrain and coupe-style flight path that deliver a sharper and sportier design, Porsche is taking the Macan fully electric. to a whole new level,” said. Christopher Hunter, CEO of SDAP.

Built on the Premium Electric Platform (PPE), the Macan has an 800V architecture and is offered in two variants, namely Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. The move to a dedicated EV platform also brings a number of firsts for the Macan, including more advanced two-valve air suspension dampers, which are part of the System Management electronic damping control system. Porsche Active Suspension (PASM) – standard on Turbo variant.

Rear axle steering (up to 5 degrees) is also new for the Macan and is available as an option to reduce the turning radius to just 11.1 metres. Both variants are equipped with nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) batteries with a total energy capacity of 100 kWh (95 kWh usable) and feature a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup, which later combines with electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM). .

The Macan 4’s electric motor is rated for a total system output of 387 PS (382 hp or 285 kW), but when you engage the boost and start-up feature, you get 408 PS (402 kW). power or 300 kW) at your disposal along with a maximum torque of 408 PS (402 horsepower or 300 kW). 650Nm. Thanks to that, the Macan 4 will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 220 km/h.

The Macan Turbo is even faster with a 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h. This is because its electric motor delivers a nominal 584 PS (577 hp or 430 kW), while with boost and launch control you get 639 PS (630 kW). horsepower or 470 kW) and 1,130 Nm.

If you want to know how much road tax you’ll pay in relation to these nominal outputs, it’s RM515 for the Macan 4 and RM1,240 for the Macan Turbo. In terms of operating range, the two variants have only 22 km, of which the Macan 4 has a range of up to 613 km according to WLTP standards, while this figure is up to 591 km for the Macan Turbo.

For charging, the Macan can handle maximum DC power of up to 270 kW on an 800V charger (10-80% state of charge in 21 minutes) or up to 135 kW on a 400V charger (10-80% state of charge) in 33 minutes). minute). If you fall into the latter category, a high-voltage switch in the battery will enable backup charging by effectively “splitting” the 800V battery into two batteries, each with a rated voltage of 400V.

This is said to be able to charge effectively where an additional HV booster is needed to increase the 400V voltage to 800V. There’s also slower AC charging at up to 11 kW (0-100% state of charge in 10 hours), and the EV can recover up to 240 kW through the electric motor while driving.

In terms of size, the second generation Macan is larger than its predecessor with a length of 4,784 mm (+58 mm), a width of 1,938 mm (+11 mm), a height of 1,622 mm (+26 mm) and a longer wheelbase. is 2,893 mm (+86 mm).

The larger bodywork improves practicality, with boot space now at 540 liters from 488 litres. With the rear seats folded 40:20:40, the luggage compartment capacity increases to 1,348 liters.

The lack of an engine under the bonnet also allows the trunk to accommodate an additional 84 litres, which features a novel opening method that involves simply waving your hand at the Porsche emblem (Turbo models now have badges finished in Turbonite) . The same wave also opens the Macan’s two charging doors, one on each side.

In terms of design, one of the main highlights of the Macan is its sleek roofline that is intended to evoke the iconic “flying line” of the 911 for a true sporty SUV look. Elsewhere, a lower nose and more pronounced wings make up the front end, along with a switch to split headlights. The four-point light cluster at the top is LED daytime running lights, while the main lights are further back near the spoilers. On Turbo variants, the spoilers are more visible and come with body-colored wings.

Moving to the rear, there is a full-width LED light strip and Porsche lettering between the 3D effect taillights. Just above the complex light cluster is an adaptive rear spoiler – part of the Porsche Active Aerodynamics System – which is deployed when more downforce is needed but is otherwise flush with the body for a more visible appearance. neater exterior. Together with the new bodywork, active cooling fins on the front air intakes, flexible flaps on the fully enclosed underbody, air curtains and diffuser, the drag coefficient is 0.25.

Inside, the Macan follows the path of the upgraded Taycan by having up to three screens on the dashboard. The first two are standard and include a freestanding 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster as well as a 10.9-inch central touchscreen. As an option, you can add another 10.9-inch front passenger touchscreen, designed to be hidden from the driver’s view while the vehicle is moving to avoid distraction.

Another piece of technology making its debut on the Macan is a head-up display with augmented reality that can project images that appear to the driver at a distance of 10 meters and corresponds to the size of the 87-inch screen. .

Infotainment is provided as standard Porsche Communication Management (PCM), now based on the Android Automotive Operating System. Functions like a digital voice assistant (“Hey Porsche”), downloadable apps, and deeper Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are all included.

Fans of physical controls will be happy to know the Macan still has them on the center console for the climate control system, along with a dial for quickly adjusting media volume. The lack of a conventional transmission tunnel also allows for plenty of cubicle space.

Pricing for the second-generation Macan isn’t available yet, but given it’s now fully electric and qualifies for current electric vehicle incentives, it’s expected to be lower than the second-generation Macan’s price. first generation model, currently retailing from RM469,000 to RM895,000. If you want one, contact SDAP to pre-order.

Those interested will have plenty of customization options to choose from, including up to 72 exterior colors (13 standard and 59 special) as well as eight-wheel designs. The interior also comes in eight color variations along with seven interior packages and four accent packages. You can even personalize the key fob to match your vehicle’s body color.
