Er, Why is this so complicated?
On the other hand, it’s predictable that Sega will want to squeeze every last penny from some of the most popular video games in history, even if you have about 40 other ways to play some of the accompanying games.
Then again, it certainly doesn’t have to this complex. The lack of clarity on what exactly is unlockable in the base game versus what is DLC exclusive – plus the lack of individual DLC pricing – makes this whole graph the ‘solution’ almost like Nintendo in its entirety.
At first, we thought that the music DLC might be Sega’s way of covering the licensing costs of original Sonic composer Masato Nakamura, or even the rights holders to Sonic 3’s compositions (which were created). long rumored to have been written by Michael Jackson and his songwriting team). However, looks like that DLC pack can add music for other Sound game are not included in the collection (as far as we know), such as Sonic Spinball, 3D explosion and Knuckles Chaotix. Those games certainly had some bang… but we’re not sure we’d pay extra to listen to them via the BGM menu.
There’s also the annoyance of the Sega test modes behind the DLC launch for games that are available to play in multiplayer, a lot of other ways. On the Switch alone, there are at least three other ways to play Sonic 1. The extra charge for the DLC is sure to be crawled by thick-to-thin Sonic and Sega fans.
Don’t get us wrong, we’re very excited about this collection, especially now featuring Sonic Mania Headcannon developer has been confirmed. Frustratingly so as if having done the hard work and had the right people involved in the development, Sega went and messed things up with a bunch of unnecessarily complicated choices, leaving fans The company’s most loyal graves can’t help but worry.
