How long does it take you to beat Pokémon Scarlet & Violet? 20 hours? 30 hours? Well, the speeding community is here to put us to shame, because Automated communication discovered that the latest Pokémon games are being completed in less than 5 and a half hours.
At the time of writing, the world record for Speedrun.com held by Pokémon speedrunner reallywho managed to beat the game impressively 5 hours 27 minutes 11 seconds. Okay, so that’s all three story paths, a decent pool of Pokémon, and more that we don’t want to reveal here, all in one evening?
But wait, it’s not a group of Pokémon that help many of these speed athletes. In many of his runs, actually relied on an early game Pokémon – Flamigo, the Fight/Flying type flamingo. We say rely on, but what we mean is really almost exclusively using this single Pokémon in the entire process, with a few exceptions. Flamigo has proven to be quite popular thanks to its strong typing and physical attack stats as well as its high speed, but this takes its strengths to the next level. The top three records on Speedrun.com all focus on using this brand new Pokémon to power up the game.
Aside from abusing Flamigo’s Scrappy ability (which allows it to damage Ghost-type Pokémon with Normal and Battle-type moves), there aren’t too many tricks to play through the super-fast Paldean. One obvious trick seems to be to focus on Pokémon Titan, as defeating them allows you to upgrade Koraidon/Miraidon’s mobility.
There are a lot of awkward climbs and big drops that allow for a really good time at the moment. However, like any good speed runner, he was determined to beat his own time and thought he could definitely do it. We cheer you on!
