Peugeot 9×8 ready for first competitive launch in July

The 9×8 is powered by a 2.6-liter twin-turbo V6 behind the driver, sending 671 hp through a seven-speed sequential gearbox to the rear wheels. A 268 hp electric motor-generator rotates the front axle. However, the driver’s first display won’t use any of that, as Peugeot will take the Kryptonite car to next month’s Le Mans 24 Hours just as a static display. The first competitive test takes place next month, at 6 o’clock at Monza in Italy on July 10. From now until then, Peugeot Sport plans to do more testing, including running the car’s first six hours in race conditions. Two vehicles are planned for the campaign in Italy, where they will face off against the epic Alpine LMP1, and supercar from Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus and Toyota. Driver pairs are yet to be arranged, but the six-man team includes Loic Duval, Mikkel Jensen, Gustavo Menezes, Paul di Resta, Jean-Eric Vergne and the final addition of James Rossiter, Haas’ replacement. The team says they will be traveling to Italy to compete for the win, not using the event as a test session or merely a parade.
