Panasonic announces new compact and lightweight ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with close-up capabilities

Las Vegas, NV (January 4, 2023) – Panasonic is pleased to introduce a new cost-effective ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, the LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO based on the L-Mount system. The LUMIX S series offers three budget-friendly lenses including the LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO (S-R1428), the LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 (S-R2060), and the LUMIX S 70-300mm F4. 5-5.6 MACRO OIS (S-R70300) to cover 14mm ultra-wide angle to 300mm telephoto. All of these lenses achieve high optical performance and excellent portability that match the LUMIX S5 series cameras for both photos and videos.

The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO consists of 14 lens elements in 10 groups including one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) aspherical element, one aspherical element, and three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements. and one UHR (Ultra High Dispersion) Refractive Index) lens element. The use of an aspherical lens provides high depiction performance and beautiful bokeh. Three ED lenses effectively eliminate chromatic aberration. Despite its compact size and light weight of approximately 345 g, the LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO boasts 0.25 (at 14mm) – 0.5x (at 28mm) close-up capabilities. . Taking advantage of the minimum focusing distance of 0.15m at the entire zoom range, it can be used to capture close-up shots with beautiful bokeh. It is suitable for versatile situations including capturing sweeping landscape shots at an ultra-wide angle of view.

The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO features smooth, quiet operation to work with the camera’s high-speed, high-precision autofocus system with a sensor drive at full speed. 240 fps max.

For non-linear settings, the focus is shifted by an amount that varies according to the rotation speed of the focus ring. Focus is shifted by a specified amount according to the rotation quantum of the focus ring for a linear setting. Sensitivity (the amount of focus shift per rotational quantum) can be selected from 90 to 360 degrees to trigger intent focus operation¹. The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO also excels in video performance with a mechanism that prevents focus breathing, which is a serious problem with all interchangeable lenses designed for still photography. . Coupled with micro-stepping aperture control for smooth exposure changes, professional-quality video recording is possible.

The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO and LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 lenses have a common overall length and position of the controls to provide practical advantages in use. The weight and center of gravity of these lenses are similar, making it easy to change lenses quickly with minimal balance adjustment when the camera is on the gimbal.

Rugged dust/splash-proof design² withstands use in harsh conditions even at -10°C for high portability. A fluorine coating is applied to the front lens element to ensure water/oil resistance. 77mm diameter ND/PL filter can be attached.

Panasonic and L-Mount Systems Alliance is committed to developing L-Mount lenses to further expand their product line to meet customer needs.
The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO will be available at valued partner channels for $799.99 at the end of March.

Note

¹ Maximum sensitivity varies by camera model, up to 1080 degrees on S5II, S5IIX and BS1H (as of January 2023).
² Dust and water jet resistance does not guarantee that damage will not occur if this lens is directly exposed to dust and water.
