The Met Police are being investigated after the watchdog learned officers had previously contacted missing student nurse Owami Davies.
24-year-old boy from Essex last seen on 7/7 in Croydon after leaving her family’s home in Grays, Essex three days earlier, and has yet to be found.
She was reported missing by her family to Essex Police on 6 July, and the force then handed over the case to the Met on 23 July.
However, on Saturday, Scotland Yard revealed its staff spoke to Ms Davies on July 6, after responding to an address in Croydon about concerns about a woman’s welfare.
Both the police and the ambulance service attended and spoke to Ms Davies, who told them she did not want help.
At the time, she had not yet been marked as missing in the police database, and was only later identified as Miss Davies during the investigation.
The Met said it was not investigating the officers in question and its professional standards body had been consulted, adding that the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) had requested a referral. topic for them.
In a statement, Scotland Yard said: “The Met’s Professional Standards Board (DPS) has been consulted and because of contact with police, the IOPC has been notified.
“The IOPC has requested to refer the matter to them.
“The officers are not subject to any current investigation by the DPS.
“The interactions captured on body-worn video of the officers were viewed by members of the Independent Advisory Group and Owami’s family to ensure openness and transparency.”

The IOPC said in a statement: “We can confirm that we received a referral on August 5 from the Metropolitan Police Department regarding liaisons who had been with Owami Davies in Croydon. on July 6, after she was reported missing to Essex Police.
“We are currently evaluating the information available to determine what action may be required.”
A new appeal to find Ms Davies was launched last week, with British Transport Police saying she can still use trains in the area.
The Metropolitan Police added: “Owami was depressed and in the absence of medication she may have used alcohol to alleviate her depression.”
So far, five people have been arrested as part of the investigation, two suspected of murder and three suspected of kidnapping – all of whom have been released on bail.
