My childhood dog was a standard Dachshund:

I named him Peanuts for the Peanuts cartoon strip. During the last years of his life, Peanut was best friends with our duck named Daisy.

When Peanut had surgery for disc disease, his rehabilitation involved swimming with Daisy — and years later, they became the subject of my first major writing assignment: a feature for give Reader’s Notice magazine on Peanut and Daisy!
