Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Man Utd sack coach with club seventh in Premier League

Manchester United have sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Watford.

The club have won just one of their past seven Premier League matches and are seventh in the table, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea.

First-team coach Michael Carrick has been given a temporary charge ahead of United’s Champions League trip to Villarreal on Tuesday.

“It is with great regret that we have come to this difficult decision,” United said.

“While the past weeks have been disappointing, they shouldn’t obscure all of the work he’s done over the past three years to rebuild the foundation for long-term success.

“Ole leaves with the sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as manager and our best wishes for the future.

“His place in the club’s history will always be assured, not only because of his story as a player, but also as a great man and a manager who gave We have many great moments.He will forever be welcome back to Old Trafford as part of the Manchester Flower Family.

“Michael Carrick will now be in charge of the team for upcoming matches, while the club will appoint an interim coach until the end of the season.”

After Villarreal’s trip, United face matches against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Solskjaer, 48, replaced Jose Mourinho as caretaker in December 2018.

The Norwegian was then given the job all the time in March 2019 on a three-year contract and in July signed a new deal with the club until 2024.
