Ohio man celebrates his 50th birthday by walking 50 dogs at the shelter in one day

Alex Johns from Cincinnati, Ohio, is celebrating his birthday in a big way.

He decided he wanted to repay the favor for his 50th birthday and chose an animal shelter, Cincinnati Animal CARE, where he is a regular volunteer.

He came up with the idea of ​​taking 50 dogs to a shelter in one day as a way to raise awareness for all homeless dogs.

His “Fifty x 50” idea is a two-part goal. It started as an idea inspired by his grandfather, who visited 49 states. Johns wanted to play golf in all 50 states by the time he turned 50, which he did.

However, as his birthday approaches, he wants to do more. That’s when he came up with the second installment of the movie “Fifty by 50,” which aims to help his local dogs and animal shelters.

He decided to not only take the 50 dogs at the shelter for a walk in one day, but also raise money to help raise and care for the pets in the shelter.

“By now you probably know that I love dogs more than people. This is why I volunteer to walk my dog ​​weekly at the Cincinnati Animal CARE Humane Society,” he said. Written in the description of his fundraiser on Facebook.

His initial goal was to raise $5,000 for the home, but he surpassed his goal thanks to generous sponsors and corporations, like Team DLV Realtors, who matched the numbers. Donations. When the walk began Monday morning, he had already raised more than $11,000 for the shelter.

Johns told Local News 12, “I hope that people will donate their time and money to bring a dog home. There are programs that you can refresh in one day, like a weekend nap. Every little thing helps these dogs so the closer they are to people, the more they can be raised and my hope is that we will get as many of these dogs out of the shelter. My dream is to not be able to volunteer there anymore because there are no dogs.”

It was a cold day, but the sun was shining, and Johns showed up to fulfill his goal of taking 50 dogs to the shelter in one day. The shelter shared pictures of several dogs on Facebook, and it was clear by their tail wags that they were experiencing an explosion. The shelter wrote, “The walk is continuing!”
