Oaklawn’s top racer Torres joins Colony Churchill


Jockey Cristian Torres, who dominates the driver rankings at Oaklawn Park winter has come this year Churchill Downs and plans to stay at the full meeting until early July.

Torres, who entered a race May 11 at Churchill Downs, has won 100 at Oaklawn, 17 more than runner-up Francisco Arrieta. The Puerto Rican native started his career as a jockey in 2019 and became the fastest jockey in Oaklawn history to hit $1 million in earnings on day 11 of a meeting that lasted 68 days.

This winter in Arkansas, he scored the first graded bet win of his career in the $600,000 Razorback Handicap (G3) for the Elder Horses on the Millionaire Train. The Last Samurai Warrior for Hall of Fame coach D. Wayne Lukas.

Torres makes his Oaklawn debut in 2021 and his career kicked off last summer when he began making his first calls for Robertino Diodoro and Karl Broberg, two of the most winning coaches in Northern history America. In the 2021-22 meet in Oaklawn, Torres won 19 races before taking a few months off and continuing to ride at Lonely Star Park in Texas. He also won 19 races there.
