Norwegian Cruise Line’s new giant ship will depart from Miami


A huge new one Norwegian Cruise Line The ship scheduled to launch in 2026 finally has a name — and a future home.

The ship, currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy, will have a capacity of 3,550 passengers and will be called Norwegian Luna, Norwegian President David Herrera revealed late Tuesday during a preview event near the shipyard.

The cruise will depart weekly from Miami to the Caribbean starting April 4, 2026, he added.

With a gross tonnage of 156,300 tonnes, the Norwegian Luna will become the fifth largest Norwegian ship ever built.

It is a sister ship to Norwegian Sea WaterAnother new Norwegian ship is under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, scheduled to launch in March 2025.

Both Norwegian Luna and Norwegian Aqua are larger versions of Norwegian’s two newest ships, Norway Viva And Prima of NorwayProud to have a new and expanded location.

Among the most notable new attractions that will be available at both Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna: A first-of-its-kind and epic combination roller coaster and water slide called Aqua Slidecoaster.

“This is going to be the feature people are going to talk about the most,” Herrera said during the preview event, which also included a look at the under-construction Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna.

During the unveiling, dozens of travel company executives and members of the media got their first look at the massive underwater entertainment facility taking shape atop Norwegian Aqua.

Revolving around the ship’s superstructure is an impressive attraction with two blue and turquoise slides that reach up to three stories high in some places. The attraction, which uses magnets to propel riders forward at a thrill-ride-like speed, is billed as the longest and fastest underwater attraction ever on a cruise ship.

Like Norwegian Aqua, Norwegian Luna will also feature a digital sports complex, Glow Court, which is an interactive play area during the day but transforms into a nightclub at night.

During the event, Norwegian announced that Norwegian Luna will launch its inaugural Caribbean season on April 4, 2026, with two seven-night voyages to the Western Caribbean departing from Miami to Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Harvest Caye, Belize, the brand’s resort-style destination.

Norwegian Luna will then move on to a series of seven-night Eastern Caribbean voyages departing from Miami, calling at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas.

Norwegian’s Herrera also revealed that the hull will be designed by Elle, a street artist from California, who was also in Italy to attend the event and watch the construction of Norwegian Luna.

“This is an incredible honor,” Elle said after being introduced to attendees. “To see this incredible ship come to life is beyond my wildest dreams.”
