No suspension for Premier League footballer arrested on suspicion of rape, club confirm | UK News
His club say a Premier League footballer will not be suspended after being arrested on suspicion of rape.
The player, who has not been identified, was arrested in Barnet, north London earlier this month on allegations that he raped a woman in her 20s in June.
While in custody, the 29-year-old was arrested on suspicion of raping another woman in April and June last year.
He has denied the charges and has been bailed until August.
The club, also unnamed, said in a statement: “We are aware the allegations are currently the subject of police investigation.
“We have confirmed that the player denies the allegations and is being released on bail pending the results of their investigation. There are no charges and the player is able to fulfill his professional commitments including even being allowed to travel.”
It added that it takes its responsibilities seriously and has followed its protection procedures.
“We will take a close look at this matter and will look into it further if the situation changes,” the statement concluded.
