No luck with your iPhone? AppleCare+ now includes ‘unlimited’ repair after accidents

There’s good news for those unlucky with their phones, as Apple made an unexpected twist to AppleCare+ between the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch announcements on Wednesday.

AppleCare+ has so far only allowed two repairs for accidental damage within a year, but has now changed the terms to “unlimited” repairs for accidental damage.

“AppleCare+ for iPhone includes without limitation incidents of accidental damage protection. Each incident is subject to the service charges listed below, plus applicable taxes. In addition, you will receive Translations. Quick Replacement service and 24/7 priority access to Apple experts via chat or phone.”

With AppleCare+, iPhone owners will pay $29 for a broken screen or back glass, $99 for accidental damage.

Without AppleCare+, the cost of replacing a broken screen on an iPhone 13 Pro Max is $329 and $279 on an iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 13. Apple has yet to update the price for screen replacement on the iPhone 14.

Apple also offers “AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss” for $70 more than the standard product.

Apple hasn’t changed the price of the iPhones with AppleCare+, but added a new price for the iPhone 14 Plus – new model in its iPhone 14 lineup, including iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple dropped the Mini version so there is no iPhone 14 Mini.

AppleCare+ for iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max costs $199 or $9.99 a month. Protecting iPhone 14 Plus with AppleCare+ costs $179 or $8.99 a month. The cost for iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 is $149 or $7.99 a month and the cost for iPhone SE (3rd generation) is $79 or $3.99 a month month.

AppleCare+ can be purchased with a new iPhone or within 60 days of purchase. Apple also updated terms and conditions for AppleCare +which lists current service charges for damages and various exclusions, such as repair of damage caused by “anyone other than Apple or its authorized representative.”
