Nitrous powers the KTM X-Bow vs McLaren Elva vs Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drag race

Who needs windows anyway? That was the theory when McLaren decided to lower the roof and windshield from the Elva – a car inspired by Bruce McLaren’s open-top racing cars from the 1960s.

Same story at KTM. It wanted a car that suited the motorcycling experience…with seats. It also has a roof and minimal windows in lieu of an extremely fast car that offers a ‘wind in your hair’ experience. However, this one is a bit more special – more on that soon.

We will drag race these two to find out who is the fastest. The fastest will fight North Korea’s missiles – missiles Hyundai Ioniq 5N.

Last time we went up against an 1800 horsepower muscle car and Hyundai dominated. So let’s see how things go today.

Thanks again to Hyundai for helping cover the costs of completing this series – it was MEGA expensive to make, so without support it wouldn’t have happened, you can Read more about that part here.

The cars

The McLaren Elva is the fifth car in the McLaren Ultimate Series – it follows the F1, P1, Senna and Speedtail, and aims to deliver outstanding performance in a unique body with a limited production run of just 149 units. globally.

Priced at just over 2.5 million USD when new, the Elva is equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine, producing 600kW of power and 800Nm of torque. It’s an absolute weapon that claims to be able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in less than 3.0 seconds.

It has a top speed of 328km/h (that’s even humanly possible with someone behind the wheel surpassing me) and weighs around 1200kg (power for weight is crazy).

It’s confronting KTM X-Bow. But it’s not just any KTM Volkswagen Golf R.

While the Golf R sends torque to all four wheels, this KTM

It produces 350kW (470 horsepower) and weighs just 900kg. Unlike McLaren, which uses an automatic transmission, KTM uses a manual transmission.

The challenger is achievable

Priced from $111,000 before on-road costs, the car is fully electric Hyundai Ioniq 5N uses a two-motor all-wheel drive electric powertrain system 448kW power and 740Nm of torque.

Those outputs increased 478kW And 770Nm with N Grin Boost function – can also be combined with launch control function. It has a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.4 seconds with N Grin Boost function active.

It also has a bunch of other functions like the ability to destroy tires, make engine sounds, and even fictitious gear shifting with pulses to make it feel like an internal combustion car with a DCT.

Result

Before I get into the results, I can’t tell you how crazy it feels to go 240km/h without a roof or windshield.

You’re constantly eating all sorts of insects, while the car – and your head – are moving around with crosswinds. It’s crazy.

The McLaren’s acceleration is also crazy. It weighs only 1200kg and has a capacity of 600kW. Acceleration is unbelievable and constantly fighting for traction.

Similar to the KTM, when it hooks up it takes off; but before that, it constantly struggled for grip as the engine was delivering torque through the transmission with constant additions of nitrous across the rev range.

Mean of transportation 0-100 km/h 80-120 km/h 1/4 mile 0-200 km/h
McLaren Elva 3.80 seconds 1.66 seconds 10.71 seconds @ 232.08km/h 8.45 seconds
KTM X-Bow 4.39 seconds 2.27 seconds 11.90 seconds @ 190.61km/h
Hyundai Ioniq 5N 3.52 seconds 1.86 seconds 11.32 seconds @ 195.92km/h
