The report says the three automakers have developed four EV platforms. But it is also looking to develop a fifth platform called the CMFB-EV for use in Renault’s compact cars, as well as an electric version of the Nissan Micra subcompact that will launch later this decade, reports the report. said.

However, it is still unclear what this means for the US market. The only Alliance EV coming here is the Nissan Ariya crossover. Until other EVs arrive—maybe a few years—the old Ariya and Nissan Leaf will co-exist.

The plan will also highlight “enhanced cooperation” between automakers, highlighting a “shared vision of electrification and connected mobility,” one source said. Reuters.

In November 2021, Nissan revealed its plans 15 EVs in 2030with active solid-state batteries for 2028. That plan aims to spend nearly $18 billion.

The previous targets from Nissan were called conservativeand former CEO Carlos Ghosn – the father of both Alliance and Nissan Leaf – said last month that the company too shy about electric cars.

Under Ghosn, Nissan launched the Leaf at the end of 2010 and set a cumulative global EV sales target of 500,000 units by 2012. Nissan has only achieved global sales of 500,000 Leaf units in 2020, after 10 years of presence. on the market.

So Nissan was burned by previous overly ambitious plans. But with rival automakers set to roll out large numbers of electric vehicles, Nissan and its alliance partners may need a more aggressive plan to keep up.
