Nissan concept transforms the performance of the Ariya electric crossover into a single-seater race car

On Thursday, Nissan revealed an electric single-seater racing concept that uses the powertrain from its upcoming Ariya electric SUV.

According to a company press release, the goal of the Nissan Ariya Single Seater concept is to evoke the design language of future electric performance models.

The concept sports the “V-moving” grille used on current Ariya and Nissan models, with the side surfaces also inspired by the electric SUV, Nissan claims. The result is something that looks like an evolution of BladeGlider concept Nissan showed it off in 2013, evolving with some Formula E influences, including Halo safety gear around the cockpit.

Nissan didn’t discuss specs, but the production Ariya will debut the automaker’s e-4orce (think e-Force) dual-engine all-wheel-drive system, with a capacity of 389 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque according to U.S. specs, and a control system Nissan claims improves handling without making it difficult to cruise.

It’s hard to imagine Nissan selling a single-seat race car to customers, but the automaker has teased other electric sports cars over the past decade as potentially production bound—like ESFlow since 2013.

Nissan tease some other concept earlier this week — including a two-seat roadster called the Max-Out — as part of a plan to add 15 more all-electric models by 2030. It was also recently introduced. is IMs . electric sedan concept. While there’s no shortage of Nissan EV concepts, the Ariya remains the only new electric production model confirmed to debut. It is scheduled to begin shipping in the United States in the fall of 2022 as a 2023 model.
