On Monday, Nissan announced an ambitious plan to roll out nearly two dozen new electric and hybrid vehicles and invest in solid-state battery technology by the end of the decade.
Dubbed Nissan Ambition 2030, the plan calls for 23 electric vehicle models for the global Nissan and Infiniti brands, including 15 all-electric vehicles, by 2030. It’s part of a larger goal. is to achieve carbon-free status by 2050 and is supported by a 2 trillion yen ($1.76 billion) Investment over the next five years.

Some of those investments will also fund the development of solid-state batteries, which Nissan expects to be ready for production by fiscal 2028, with a test plant in Yokohama, Japan, going into operational as early as fiscal year 2024. Nissan expects solid-state batteries to bring the cost of an EV battery pack down to $75 per kWh by 2028, and is targeting $65 per kWh in a days later with additional cost reduction.
Nissan is aiming to make electric models – including both electric and hybrid – make up 50% of global sales by 2030. The automaker has previously said it wants to make electric cars. 40% of its sales in the United States at the time, with additional sales from hybrid vehicles.
The automaker has also previously discussed bringing in e-Power series hybrid system to the United States, including for performance app and Infiniti luxury cars. But while the e-Power is already widely available in the US market, it’s not out yet and Nissan has yet to provide an update schedule.
Nissan Surf-Out, Max-Out and Hang-Out concepts
Nissan did not provide specifics about the 15 upcoming EVs, but did reveal the Chill-Out, Hang-Out, Max-Out and Surf-Out concepts as a tease of its future plans.
The Hang-Out and Chill-Out were both crossovers, the latter having coupe-like styling. The Max-Out is a low-riding two-seater roadster, while the Surf-Out is a pickup truck with an adjustable bed reminiscent of the old compact Nissan Pulsar NX.
Meanwhile, we are still waiting for the fall 2022 launch of 2023 Nissan Ariya crossover, is targeting a 300-mile range.
