N64 patch on Switch

Some minor bug fixes just released

A new Switch N64 patch was released recently along with Kirby 64, and some sneaky data testers managed to uncover once again some invisible patch notes. Most famous, Nintendo fixed the fog in Ocarina of Timeis one of the most egregious emulator releases in a while, and one of countless bugs.

On Twitter, Switch to “tinkerer contributors” and Dolphin Oatmeal found a summary of the basic patch notes for the update, titled “version 2.3.0:”

  • Kirby 64 more
  • Fox star, fox 64 gamma adjustment enabled – gamma value set to 1.8.
  • Dr. Mario 64 adjusted renderer settings (added “ConstValue_0”)
  • Mario plays golf adjusted renderer settings (added “ConstValue_1”).

Briefly, you can see the results of the fix shown in the N64 patch on Switch hereand adjust the gamma for Fox star, fox 64 obviously clearer. OatmealDome also noted that Kirby 64 really the least-touched N64 game to date, said, “Kirby 64 seems to have the fewest patches and hacks I’ve seen so far for this emulator. The usual renderer settings tweaks are available, but no patches or CPU instruction hooks. “

With that in mind, Kirby 64 there is also a soft lock bug that needs to be addressed in the future. It occurs in underwater stages under specific conditionsbut that’s something Nintendo needs to keep in mind.
