Nikon launches much-anticipated Z 85mm f/1.2 lens as well as 26mm f/2.8 . Pancake lens

Professional photographers rejoice. Today, Nikon has finally announced the release of two new lenses, the much-anticipated NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S and the pint-sized Z 26mm f/2.8.

The 85mm f/1.2 S is probably not the best kept secret in the camera industry for those of us paying attention. Ever since the warranty card for the 85mm f/1.2 lens was accidentally misprinted a few months ago, Nikon users have been clamoring for the release of a premium prime lens. For a long time, 85mm has been considered a suitable focal length for many portrait photographers as well as a popular choice among wedding photographers, fashion photographers, etc. With their 50mm prime, Nikon has long had a Z 85mm f/1.8 WILL available to customers. But, like Z 50mm f/1.8 lens inherited a stronger older brother in Z 50mm f/1.2 lensnow the 85mm scope gets the same treatment.

The only question left will be the relative stats for the new addition. The new lens has 11 circular aperture blades. It has super-precise and fast focusing thanks to the advanced multi-point focusing system. This system uses two separate stepping motors (STMs) inside the lens to operate on different focus areas. This enables the lens to shift focus from the closest to the furthest with razor-sharp precision. The minimum focusing distance of just 2.8 feet will allow you to get up close to your subject to capture intricate details. For videographers, Nikon once again minimizes focus breathing and ensures the quietest possible focusing while capturing sound. In general, there are 15 elements in 10 groups, with two aspherical and one ED element.

But how big is it? Chances are this is one of the first questions many people will ask. The lens has a weight of 1,160 grams or two pounds and nine ounces. It measures 4.1 inches by 5.6 inches. And, to my approval, has a filter diameter of 82mm, allowing me to share the filter I currently use with my 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8.

This lens will be commercially available at the end of March 2023 and has a suggested retail price of $2,799.95. Get your order in soon, as I imagine this lens will be popular.

On the complete opposite end of the size spectrum is the new Z 26mm f/2.8 pancake lens. While the size of the 85mm lens will certainly help you stand out from the crowd, the new 26mm pancake lens has an angle that keeps you from going unnoticed. The lens weighs only 125 grams, giving a wide full-frame viewing angle. When attached to a crop sensor camera, the focal length will be approximately 39mm equivalent. Personally, I’m curious how small this lens is when it comes to my lenses. zfc will be combined. Probably the perfect pocket size for travel photography and street photography, especially with a minimum focus distance of just 8 inches.

The 26mm f/2.8 Pancake will also be available in late March and is expected to sell for $499.95.

Which of these two or both are you going to add to your toolkit?
