According to the Daily Mail, a new law would make the killing of a police officer or 999 workers punishable by life in prison. The paper reported “Harper’s Law” was a victory for the campaign widow of PC Andrew Harper, who died of a burglary, the paper reported. It said Lissie Harper “was outraged” after the three men responsible for his death “laughed” as they were given the lowest sentence of 13 years.
