New Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE launched with 21 inches in front + more travel
2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 DE
Suzuki today removed the cover of the new V-Strom 1050 D/E model to kick off the revised lineup slated to launch next March.
Suzuki’s V-Strom has been a hugely popular all-road adventure touring platform for two decades, but the model has always been a touring car on all roads. Suzuki saw fit to hand it over to the Europeans to set off on a somewhat wild adventure.
This new DE (Dual Explorer) was announced today despite running 21 inches up front for extra steadiness when riding on rougher terrain. The swingarm is also longer on the DE and gives the model a longer wheelbase, and there’s also more rake up front to help the DE retain nimble handling, despite the 21-inch front.
The V-Strom 1050 DE also boasts an inch more ground clearance than the regular V-Strom 1050, 190 mm compared to the 165 mm of the 19-inch V-Strom up front.
Suspension distance is also slightly larger at around 10mm extra at each end of the KYB hardware, pushing it to 170mm of travel.
Additionally, a new gravel mode and some additional electronic features debut with the new 32-bit ECM. Rear ABS can be disabled on DE models and is a new setting from Bosch.
Now that won’t challenge a hardcore adventure bike in the dirt, but along with the wider bars, shorter screen, and a few other touches, the DE model will have more to offer. a bit from what we’ve seen before from the V-Strom platform.
Currently, Suzuki Australia is selling the 1050 XT model in Australia, and the new base model is essentially the XT but drops that moniker, losing the spokes to a ten-spoke alloy and gaining the same number of nips and taper on the powertrain for the further improvement that DE introduced.
A two-way quick-shifter is now standard on both models, as is a new 5-inch color TFT gauge.
The upcoming 1050XT model is currently on sale for $21,990 Ride Away, the new V-Strom 1050 will have a Ride Away sticker price of $22,990. Early adopters, however, will have that deal sweetened with a full set of alloy luggage, worth more than $3000, thrown into the bargain after they put down a $1000 deposit.
Buyers who want the new V-Strom 1050 DE for $24,690 Ride Away, and who are willing to put down a $1000 deposit before the car arrives, will receive an alloy top box worth over $1000. .
The 1037 cc 90-degree V-Twin engine on both models has been revised with new sodium-filled hollow valves.
An improved transmission, with different internal ratios for the first and sixth gears also debuted. The higher-quality drive chain now turns a rear sprocket with four more teeth, to deliver more powerful acceleration.
