New logo for the Mexican national team: Why El Tri changed the logo
The Mexican national team has revealed a new high in its first image change in 33 years.
El Tri’s logo now features the country’s name in large letters and the more abstract outline of the iconic eagle. Other symbolic elements include the colors of the flag, Piedra del Sol [sun stone], and the ball.
Mexico will rebrand the 2022 World Cup – assuming the team qualifies as is – as a way of modernizing their image.

Why did the Mexican national team change the logo?
“It’s time to recognize the best parts of our past, but also modernize ourselves,” Mexican football federation president Yon De Luisa told The Athletic. “We cannot allow ourselves to go to 2026 (when Mexico will be one of the World Cup hosts) with a non-contemporary mark.

“It was an opportunity that we had to take advantage of. We were fortunate to be consulted by a number of design boutiques and in the end we had great support from our sponsor and commercial partner, Adidas. .
