New Firmware Adds 4K USB and LAN Streaming to Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 II: Digital Photography Review


Panasonic has released firmware version 1.1 for the Lumix DC-GH5 II, which adds support for wired 4K streaming, among a number of feature improvements. With the new firmware, the ability to stream IP over a connected LAN at up to 4K/60p, in the H.265 codec. Using H.264 code opens the option to stream 4K/60p with a smartphone via USB.

Other improvements include improvements when shooting with Panasonic’s Lumix Tether software, the addition of Live View Composite, and the inclusion of 720- and 1080-degree options in the Focus Ring Control option. The new firmware will be available on November 29th and full details will be available on Panasonic website.

Panasonic releases firmware update program for GH5 II

Newark, NJ (October 9, 2021) – Panasonic today announced the release of firmware update program Ver.1.1 for the LUMIX GH5 II to enhance performance and usability. Firmware program will be available at LUMIX Global Customer Support website https://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/ at 8 p.m. EST on November 29, 2021.

The GH5 II is a hybrid mirrorless camera that meets the needs of all creators, capable of wireless streaming and 10-bit C4K 60p/50p video recording. With this firmware update, wired streaming performance is enhanced for high-quality video playback. It is compliant with RTP/RTSP streaming over wired LAN and via USB connection to support maximum 4K high definition streaming for both indoor and outdoor use.

1. High-quality video streaming up to 4K

  • Can stream IP (RTP/RTSP) video and audio (AAC) to PC over wired LAN
  • Multi-camera live streaming is also possible using LUMIX Tether PC software*.
  • RTMP/RTMPS streaming is possible via USB tethering with a smartphone.

2. Added functions

  • [Live View Composite] function has been added.
  • 720° and 1080° have been added as options of [Focus Ring Control].
  • The camera can be connected to LUMIX Tether via wired LAN
  • Multiple cameras can be controlled from the LUMIX Tether.*
  • The zoom operation of the LUMIX G power zoom lens can be controlled from the LUMIX Tether.*

* Requires PC software LUMIX Tether Version 2.0 or later. The LUMIX Tether Ver2.0 software will be available at the LUMIX Global Customer Support website https://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/ at 1:00 UTC on 30 November 2021.

3. Performance Improvement

  • There have been cases where the camera froze when transferring images to a PC via Wi-Fi (5GHz). This phenomenon has been fixed.
